Dr. Heather Stein
35 years (12.09.1984), Canada
A native of the Canadian province of Québec (whence I returned after my doctoral degree), I have been teaching English grammar since 2001 when I was first hired by the Champlain St. Lambert College's student-run writing centre. I defended my Ph.D at Johns Hopkins University in September 2015 where I had spent the past six years teaching history and basic writing skills to undergraduates who were both native and non-native speakers of English.
My style is crisp and simple. I believe in short sentences that get right to the point. I speak English, French, and Italian as well as reading Latin. I have a firm grasp of sentence syntax and argumentative structure. I received a 790 (99th percentile) on the verbal component of the GRE in 2008. I specialize in forms of biographical writing (which was the focus of my dissertation): job cover letters, statements of purpose for post-secondary programs, recommendation letters and character references.
I am an avid reader of fantasy and science fiction, spend much time cooking and baking with my husband, and am the proud owner of a dog and two cats.
My online portfolio contains examples of my writing as well as testimonials. I invite you to visit https://heathersteinphd.com to learn more about working with me.
