Polygled glides across the world

About Polygled:

Polygled today is an educational social network for those who want to learn any language through communication with native speakers or studying with competent teachers. There are 4 modules on the platform that help to select the most suitable way to learn languages.

The Chat Partners module allows users to choose a partner for communication based on common interests, such as films, nature, sports or business. After choosing the Chat Partner, the user can communicate with him by chat, as well as using audio or video.

The Groups module allows teachers to provide students with free language practice. The module includes a dashboard for tracking student progress, and an interface that allows students to find and communicate with peers.

The Tutors module is a marketplace for language teachers, that has built-in tools to give online lessons.

The fourth module – Courses – enables teachers to create courses with a description, a programme of classes and a schedule. There is a virtual classroom with high-quality audio and video communications, chatting and the exchange of teaching materials which is available for each lesson.

About the name origin:

The abbreviation “gl ed” (of “global education”) which reveals the idea and mission of the platform, is hidden in the name of the application. Polygled is committed to becoming an international project in teaching foreign languages using cutting-edge trends and technologies. Inside the Polygled team, there is an alternate version of the name. “Gled” is in tune with the English “glad” and for the creators of the platform it is important to convey this joy of mastering new language worlds for users all around the world. Replacing “a” with “e” at the root of the word is a tribute to the famous history of the name of the Beatles band. One version says that the final name arose due to the wordplay - if you follow the rules of grammar, it was supposed to write “The Beetles”.

The coincidence that occurs when reading a name by a person who speaks Swedish is also worth noting. In Swedish, the word “gled” translates to “glide” - and the Polygled project is also really fast spreading around the world.

Polygled in figures:

The Polygled platform was launched on April 9, 2019, and has already been joined by over 70,000 users in 45 countries. Today, all parts of the world – America, Africa, Eurasia, Australia – communicate with each other through the platform.

At the end of 2019, Polygled signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The other platform’s partner from Uzbekistan is the International Women's Public Fund “SHARQ AYOLI” - “Woman of the East”. One of the activities of the organization is to support equal rights to education. In the near future, 50 schools and 35 colleges in Uzbekistan will join the Group module.

Polygled collaborates with Alliance Française- Saratov, which is a branch of the oldest public organization supporting the spread of the French language. The activities of the Alliance Française are supported by the Embassy of France in Russia. Overall, there are 12 centers opened in the Russian Federation.

Other strategic partners include the Latin American Russian Association (ALAR), whose main goals are to facilitate the study of the Russian language in the Americas and to disseminate information about learning opportunities in the Russian Federation. ALAR has over 20,000 subscribers and over 60,000 unique visitors to its sites.

Further development of Polygled:

In 2020, the platform will continue to develop rapidly. “One of the initiatives is to form new strategic partnerships aimed at expanding our presence in Latin America, China, as well as in Central and Southeast Asia. The goal is to increase the number of platform users by providing additional options in accordance with the needs of a particular region. Another step towards the expansion of Polygled in 2020 is partnership with schools and universities around the world for cooperation in the Groups module – the use of e-learning and distance learning technologies, the introduction of the “inverted class” model, modeling and practical implementation of students' verbal behavior in bilingual environment. Also this year, we will start releasing our own educational programmes as part of the Courses module”, says Tatyana Chibinyaeva, founder and CEO of Polygled.
